The core of the patent is the description of the invention, the material or the applicability of a novelty. The patent description for the patent application in Germany is subject to the German Patent Act (PatG) and follows formal guidelines. In the case of patent applications in foreign languages, the German translation must be filed within three months. If the patent application is filed in English or French, you have 12 months to file the German translation.
Please note:If the translation is not filed within the time limit, the patent application is deemed to be withdrawn.
lingoking offers you the professional translation of your patent into any desired language — and that with proofreading to be able to guarantee you content and linguistic quality. This highest quality level in translation (ISO 17100) describes the procedure whereby a second native specialist translator checks the translation for content, language and spelling. This cooperation thus leads to a qualitatively appealing result.

FAQ: Do you have questions about patents and their translation? You can find the most important answers here:
Do you have questions about patent translation for Germany?
-
+ Is a simple translation sufficient at the office?
No. The German Patent and Trademark Office and the Patent Regulation only accept German translations that have been prepared and certified by a publicly appointed translator or patent attorney. lingoking guarantees legally binding certification by a sworn translator (in Germany).
Do you have questions about patent translation in other countries??
-
+ Is a patent valid worldwide?
No. Patents are only valid in the country or countries for which they are granted. However, if you want to protect your invention beyond national borders, you can also apply for a European or international patent at the European Patent Office (EPO).
-
+ Can I apply for my patent directly in several countries?
Yes. The European or even worldwide patent is suitable for this purpose. You can file your patent application with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (GPTO) as transmitting authority. However, in the further procedure you need a complete translation of the application in the official language of the designated office.
-
+ Can I file my patent application with the EPO in any language?
Yes and no. You can file your patent application with the EPO in any language. BUT: If this is not in one of the three official languages of the EPO (German, English or French), you must also enclose a (certified) translation of your patent application.
Do you have questions relating to the ordering/translation process of your patent?
-
+ When will I receive my translation?
lingoking offers you various options: A standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. With express delivery, the translator completes the translation within 2 to 3 working days. Certified translations are then handed over to Deutsche Post and it takes approximately 2 more business days until you receive your translation. You will receive the tracking number via your personal login area. Please note that we have no influence on the delivery time from the time of handover to Deutsche Post. PLEASE NOTE: Patents can vary in length. For documents of this type, we calculate about 1,500 words per translator per day. If your document is very large, delivery may take a little longer. However, we always strive to deliver as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest quality standards. For larger projects, we can also put together a team of translators for you. Contact us, we will advise you free of charge and of course respond to your individual wishes.
-
+ What does the translation of a patent cost?
lingoking translates all document types and certifies the translation. The certified translation of your patent usually follows a standard price, as the length does not vary. We offer the translation of your patent for as little as 87.50 euro. For a small surcharge, you can also order additional certified copies and an additional digital version. You will receive your certified translation not only by post, but also digitally as a scan. In addition, our express translation service with express delivery is available to you if you need it very quickly.
Let the lingoking price calculator show you the exact costs for your translation now. The best thing is: With us you can also order the translation right away. At lingoking, we guarantee the highest quality, fast implementation and your complete satisfaction — all at an unbeatable price. -
+ Into which languages can I have my patent translated into?
We translate your patent into German as well as into any other language you desire. No matter whether French, Russian, Polish, English, Romanian, Italian, Turkish or Farsi. Of course, by a professionally trained specialist translator with the relevant industry knowledge!
-
+ What are the advantages of the lingoking translation service?
Order your translation online easy and uncomplicated in just a few clicks. A copy of your employment reference letter (e.g. scan) is sufficient for the translation, we do not need the original.
-
+ Who translates my patent? Who has access to the documents?
Your translation will only be carried out by trained translators and — if certified — by sworn translators. This ensures that your translation is recognized by all government offices and authorities. Only our translators will have access to your personal documents. Discretion and security are very important to us, which is why the encryption and upload in the digital order section also follow the highest security levels.
-
+ What is a certified translation?
A certified translation is a translation of an official document provided with the translator's attestation clause. Such a translation can only be carried out by court sworn translators. The translator confirms the accuracy of the translation with his/her signature, stamp and attestation clause. The authenticity of the translation is thus guaranteed in a legally binding manner. When you order your translation from lingoking and select the ""certification"" option, we guarantee that the translation will be done by a translator who has been sworn by a court in Germany.
Additional quality assurance is provided by the 4-eyes principle (proofreading by a second specialist translator) — as well as our certification according to the European quality standard DIN EN ISO 17100 for translation services. If you need to get it done quickly, we also offer an express service that allows you to meet even the tightest deadlines. Of course, we will treat your documents confidentially!
